What 69 Means

Everybody knows the position. The detail people actually search for is whether it means protected, and the profile answers that separately.

Sixty nine is the one term on this list that almost everybody already knows, and it still gets searched several thousand times a month in the UK alone. Usually by people checking one specific detail rather than the whole meaning.

The short answer

69 is mutual oral sex, both people at once, each facing the other’s lower half. The name is the shape of the number.

Ninety three of our roster list it, which makes it the second most widely offered listing on the entire site. If you were wondering whether it is a normal thing to want, that number is the answer.

The detail people are actually searching for

Whether it means protected or not.

On its own, 69 says nothing about a condom. It describes the position rather than the protection, and the listing that speaks to protection is OWO, oral without.

So the reading is: 69 listed and OWO listed means one thing. 69 listed and OWO not listed means the same position with a condom. Eighty five of the roster list OWO and ninety three list 69, and the gap between those two numbers is exactly the group this distinction matters for.

What else it does not tell you

It says nothing about the finish. That is CIM, COB or CIF, all listed separately and all decided separately.

It says nothing about anything else oral. Deep throat is its own listing, fifty seven of the roster, and rimming is two more, listed as giving and receiving because they are not the same thing.

The pattern across this whole glossary is the same. Each listing is one decision, and none of them implies the next.

The practical part

Two things worth knowing, neither of which is usually written down.

It is harder to sustain than it looks. Both people are doing something and paying attention to something at once, which is why in practice a lot of bookings pass through it rather than stay there. That is normal and not a failure of anything.

Height difference matters more than anything else. This is the genuinely useful and never mentioned bit. A significant difference makes the standard arrangement awkward, and the fix is which of you is on top rather than anything more complicated.

Where it fits

It sits inside almost anything. It is a standard part of a girlfriend experience, it is unremarkable in a PSE, and it is common enough in duo bookings that it barely needs arranging.

Nobody charges extra for it and nobody lists it as a highlight, because at ninety three out of the roster it is closer to a given than a feature.

The health part

Oral carries real if lower risk, and 69 is oral in both directions at once, which is the honest way to put it. Several infections pass this way, and those that spread by skin contact are not much affected by a condom.

If you have a cut or an ulcer in your mouth, or you have just been to the dentist, the risk is higher than usual. Our guide on sexual health lists the London clinics, which are free and better informed than any website.

Asking for it

You largely do not need to. It is listed by nearly everybody and it is part of the ordinary run of a booking rather than a request.

The part worth checking on the profile is OWO, since that is the actual variable. And as with everything else here, a listing is what somebody is open to rather than a promise, and she can decline on the night without giving a reason.
